As a Biologist for the Regional Directorate of Health Amazonas – Peru, Melva has experience monitoring water quality to prevent risks to public health and educating the community and key stakeholders on water disinfection methods in her country, Peru.
Join Miami Waterkeeper in welcoming Melva Rosa Gil Vera as she joins us for four months to teach us about her work and learn from ours through the Community Solutions Program!
The Community Solutions Program (CSP), sponsored by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and implemented by IREX, is a professional development program for the best and brightest global community leaders working in Environmental Issues, Tolerance and Conflict Resolution, Transparency and Accountability, and Women and Gender Issues. Melva is among 100 individuals from around the world selected to participate in the program this year, and we are so excited to have her expertise on our team.
Melva joined Miami Waterkeeper on August 6, 2018. As a Biologist for the Regional Directorate of Health Amazonas – Peru, Melva has experience monitoring water quality to prevent risks to public health and educating the community and key stakeholders on water disinfection methods in her country, Peru.
Melva received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology-Microbiology and Parasitology from Universidad Nacional Pedro Ruiz Gallo de Lambayeque – Peru, and her Master’s degree in Management and Environmental audits from Universidad Científica del Sur in Lima, Peru.
As part of the Community Solutions Program, Melva will work in Miami Waterkeeper, in Miami, Florida for four months, working on research and outreach to support the organization in providing clean water, ecosystem protection and resiliency. Upon returning to Peru, Melva plans to provide environmental education to vulnerable communities.
