Biscayne Bay dead zone alert: Experts report fish kill is mainly around 2 canal discharge areas

Local 10 News reported on the Biscayne Bay fish kill concentrated in the northern basin, where oxygen levels near the C-8 and C-7 canal discharge areas fell below 1 — well past the point at which fish begin to die at 5 — leaving residents to find dozens of dead flounder and toadfish along the shoreline. Miami-Dade Chief Bay Officer Irela Bague called it “nature screaming out for help,” as county contractors removed dead fish and researchers sampled the water for a cause.
