The Miami Herald reported on the Army Corps’ claim that coral disease and warm temperatures — not its PortMiami dredging — caused the reef destruction along the channel. Miami Waterkeeper Executive Director Rachel Silverstein pushed back hard: “The Corps’ report misleadingly and conveniently blames the disease and warm temperatures for the destruction of our corals, but all of the available evidence… shows that the Corps’ dredging was smothering the reefs long before the disease even began.”
