Key Biscayne blazes trail for County’s Back Bay storm surge study

The Key Biscayne Independent reported on the restart of the Army Corps’ Back Bay storm-surge study — a $7 million, four-year effort that, after the County rejected an earlier $5 billion plan for massive flood walls, now centers on mangroves, dune systems, and artificial reefs. Miami Waterkeeper policy director Audrey Siu welcomed the shift: “We’re pleased to see a range of measures instead of a wall along the shores of Biscayne Bay. They’ve included things like living shorelines and living seawalls as plan alternatives.”
