NBC News published an investigation into the aging Turkey Point nuclear plant — 50 years old, powering nearly a million Miami-area homes, with roughly 1,500 metric tons of radioactive waste stored beside Biscayne Bay and its cooling system and only access road projected to flood as seas rise. Miami Waterkeeper, which filed a complaint that helped pull the plant’s 80-year license extension back to the early 2030s, made its stance clear through Executive Director Rachel Silverstein: “We’re not opposed to nuclear power, we’re opposed to unsafe nuclear power… It’s game over for this region if we get this wrong.”
