Fight over a Fla. sewer pipe raises national financial and health issue

E&E News reported on the fight over a Florida sewer pipe — carrying millions of tons of partially treated sewage daily from Miami Beach miles out to the ocean — that sits at the center of one of the country’s biggest climate battles, over fears a strong storm could knock out the plant and pour raw sewage into Biscayne Bay. Albert Slap, an attorney supporting the Biscayne Bay Waterkeeper (now Miami Waterkeeper), warned it “could be much worse than Hurricane Sandy… If you had billions of gallons pouring into the waters, it would be a catastrophe.”
