The Sun Sentinel reported on Miami Waterkeeper’s 2022 Annual Report, which found nearly half of Fort Lauderdale’s water-quality testing sites fail clean-water standards on most days — the worst, Sweeting Park, flunking 94% of the time. After April’s record rains, our team measured 10,112 units of enterococci bacteria at Himmarshee Canal, 144 times the EPA’s recreationally safe limit, with Executive Director Rachel Silverstein noting that “the sewage leaves, but the bacteria stays.”
