For World Oceans Day, we need to talk about the giant seaweed blob taking over Florida’s waters

Reckon News marked World Oceans Day with a Q&A featuring Miami Waterkeeper director of programs Amanda Prieto on the massive Sargassum “blob” — a belt of seaweed stretching thousands of miles from West Africa to the Gulf of Mexico. Prieto explained that while Sargassum is a natural, ecologically valuable phenomenon, warming seas and nutrient pollution have swelled it to alarming new quantities that are now piling onto Florida’s beaches.
