Pet waste seriously contributing to pollution problem affecting Biscayne Bay

Local 10 News, for its “Don’t Trash Our Treasure” series, examined how un-picked-up pet waste feeds the nutrient pollution pushing Biscayne Bay toward a tipping point — the EPA estimates two to three days of waste from just 100 dogs can force the closure of 20 miles of bay to swimming. Miami Waterkeeper Executive Director Rachel Silverstein framed the bay’s plight as “death by 1,000 cuts,” noting pet waste “can be a really major bacteria source that can pollute our water.”
