Miami New Times reported on the controversial City of Miami ordinance to ban planting mangroves in city parks to preserve waterfront views — a move environmentalists warned would gut the city’s resiliency efforts. Miami Waterkeeper Executive Director Rachel Silverstein, whose organization launched an email petition against the ban (“If you like to fish, then you like mangroves!”), argued the parks are “some of the last places that we have to actually put mangroves,” and that the ban “would really show the nation that Miami is not serious about resiliency and sea-level rise.”
