NBC6, in its “Planet in Crisis: Solutions” series, examined how a 2008 Florida law barring local plastic bans has pushed the fight against single-use plastic toward education and voluntary programs. Miami Waterkeeper education and outreach manager Erin Cover explained our approach of working directly with underrepresented communities and coaching up to 30 high school students a year: “Everything that happens on land directly affects our waterways” — because cleanups alone, she noted, are “just treating a symptom of the issue.”
