Groups to sue federal officials over manatee protection

The Associated Press reported that Miami Waterkeeper joined the Center for Biological Diversity, Harvard’s Animal Law & Policy Clinic, and Frank S. González García in filing notice of intent to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for failing to protect the West Indian manatee — nearly 2,000 of which have died in the past two years, more than 20% of Florida’s population, largely from starvation as pollution-fueled algae blooms kill off their seagrass.
